Two of the biggest threats to clean air in the CSRA are ground-level ozone and particle pollution, both of which are primarily caused by the burning of fossil fuels. Air pollution can have a huge impact on public health, particularly in those communities of people that are at risk. Air quality issues particularly impact communities of color.
The CSRA is fortunate enough to have close access to two river basins. The Edisto River is the longest blackwater river in the country and completely within the state of South Carolina. The Savannah River brings together both South Carolina and Georgia providing recreational opportunities of all kinds. Both river systems also provide drinking water to communities from as far away as Charleston and as near as those cities in the CSRA. We must protect these precious resources.
We will work with citizens across the community to address air & water quality issues through educational programs and citizen science.
